This page covers the prerequisites and admissions requirements for Lewis & Clark’s Master of Arts in Teaching with Preliminary Teaching License Program. All Lewis & Clark graduate applicants are also required to fulfill the graduate school’s general admissions requirements for all programs. The application fee ($50) and tuition deposit ($100) are waived for MAT applicants applying for 2024 admissions!
MAT for L&C Teacher Pathways Application Requirements
Admission to the graduate school requires the completion of all standard admissions requirements in addition to the program-specific admission requirements outlined below.
Compose a statement detailing your goals for graduate study. What are the key questions or issues that have led you to pursue your education in this area? Describe why you believe the profession of teaching is appropriate for you. (1-2 pages)
- If you have covered this topic in an assignment for ED 205 or ED 446 you may upload the assignment in place of an essay
MAT Elementary - Multiple Subjects:
- Applicants applying to the Elementary-Multiple Subjects program must complete a supplemental page as part of the online application. The page is used to provide information regarding your mathematics competency, science competency, and elementary classroom experience.

Classroom Volunteer/Work Experience Verification form (.pdf)
Applicants must verify their classroom experience (minimum of 20 hours.) If you completed the hours by volunteering or working at more than one school, please complete a form for each school. Applicants in the process of completing their hours may still apply.

In addition to the three personal essays, please find the link below for your content area’s content knowledge requirement. You are asked to complete a form. This is required of all applicants. The content area form is submitted electronically through the online application.

Candidates applying to teach the subject area of Art at the Secondary level must submit a portfolio of artwork with the application. The portfolio can be uploaded using the online application. Please read the Art Portfolio Requirement for more information.
