Doctor of Education in Leadership (Ed.D.)

The doctoral program in educational leadership encompasses the P-20 (preschool through baccalaureate) spectrum, affording students the unique opportunity to learn how educational pathways from pre-K/K to the significant transition into higher education play an evolving and ongoing role in educational outcomes.

Noted for preparing scholar-practitioners who create transformational change in their educational settings, our innovative, cohort-based doctoral program in leadership is committed to developing extraordinary leaders committed to social justice and equity.

Program Details

Credits: 60 semester hours
Program Start Date: Summer
Program Length: Approximately 3 years of part-time study (weekend, evening, and July summer classes)
Location: All classes are offered on the Lewis & Clark campus

PK-12 or Higher Education

Doctoral candidates will choose either the PK-12 or Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) concentration, enabling each candidate to deeply examine the education system in which they serve. An option to complete the coursework necessary to be recommended for your principal license alongside your doctorate is available as well.

Social Justice Focus

The mission of the program is to promote social justice and equity through P-20 education. The themes of social justice and equity run throughout the classes that constitute the Doctor of Education in Leadership Program.

Applied Knowledge and Research

The research of degree candidates is directly applicable to conditions, programs, and/or structures in the educational settings where you work.

To achieve an effective integration of each candidate’s personal development with program goals and design, the curriculum emphasizes leadership for social justice, critical theory and pedagogy, a variety of research methods.

Cohort Learning Community

A select group degree candidates is invited into each cohort. As part of the cohort you will progress through a structured curriculum that provides opportunities to test your knowledge in the classroom as well as in work-site settings. The cohort learning community challenges and supports group and individual academic and personal development. Cohort members also serve as critical friends who test and hold each other accountable for effective application of newly learned course content.
