International Applicants
The Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling welcomes applications from international students. Graduates of regionally accredited American colleges and universities or of recognized, comparable degree-granting institutions abroad are eligible to apply for graduate study. This typically means the completion of a degree of at least four years duration beyond the 12th year of school.
Admission to a degree program is required for F-1 student visa eligibility.
International Graduate Student Admission Requirements
International student applicants are required to submit the following in addition to the admissions requirements of their intended degree program of study.
Graduates of a non-U.S. university system are required to provide officially evaluated and translated copies of their college transcripts as required by their program. Official evaluations and translations are done by outside agencies. The following agencies provide evaluation and translation services:

- Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, Inc.
The ability to communicate effectively and comprehend graduate course content is essential to success at the graduate school. All International student applicants are expected to demonstrate English language proficiency. Lewis & Clark will accept the following as proof:

College Transcript
Nonnative English-speaking students who successfully complete an undergraduate degree in residence (not online) in English at a regionally accredited institution in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom. A minimum of four years of undergraduate studies (or the equivalent) must appear on the transcript.
The U.S. government requires educational institutions to obtain evidence that applicants have adequate funds to pay for their educational and living expenses while studying in the United States.
Certificate of Financial Responsibility
To comply, international students must complete a Certificate of Financial Responsibility. Information about tuition and costs for attending the graduate school can be found here. For information regarding visas and immigration papers, international applicants must contact the Office of International Students and Scholars.
Proof of Available Funds
The Certificate of Financial Responsibility lists the necessary documents that need to be included, such as official documents from employers, banks, and tax offices. If the document is not in English, please provide an English translation. If the document does not show amounts in U.S. Dollars, please indicate the currency type.
Financial Assistance
International students applying to the graduate school are eligible for scholarships awarded by the individual programs.
Conditional Admission
The graduate school will consider requests for conditional admission on a case by case basis. Usually the condition is submitting proof of English proficiency and/or the submission of required scores from a standardized test. Candidates who wish to be considered for conditional admission must submit all required documentation including the application. Once all required materials are received, the application will be given to program faculty for review. Conditional admission decisions are made by faculty. Students may request conditional admission prior to the published application deadlines.

If admitted to the Graduate School, the following will be required.
All students from other countries are required to have a medical examination before coming to the United States. They must also enroll in the Lewis & Clark College insurance plan or show proof of major medical coverage before registration.

Teacher Standards and Practices Commission of Oregon (TSPC)
International applicants with a teaching credential and interested in teaching in the state of Oregon are required to contact the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission of Oregon (TSPC) after their international transcripts have been evaluated. TSPC will list courses, if any, required to obtain an Oregon Initial Teaching License.
