Kayla Carrar is the Assistant Director at the Lewis & Clark Community Counseling Center. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor Candidate in the state of Oregon and is a proud alumna of the Graduate School. She is excited to support the counseling center in ensuring that daily operations are running smoothly and efficiently, and she feels passionate about helping students become competent and compassionate counselors as they start their careers in this vital field.
Kayla has over 15 years of experience working in various roles within the mental health community including working for several community mental health agencies both in client support roles and administration positions, and she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and passion for management and organization. Prior to transitioning to her Assistant Director role, Kayla had the pleasure of working with individuals of all ages in a therapeutic capacity and developed a specific passion for working with children and adolescents. Over the last three years she has also been an adjunct professor for Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling and has taught several courses including Child and Adolescent Interventions, Drugs, Brain, and Behavior, and Models of Addiction and Recovery. Kayla’s clinical interests include, but are not limited to, working with children and adolescents, utilizing creative interventions with youth and adults, helping individuals gain inner confidence, suicide prevention, destigmatizing biases within the mental health field, and mentoring counselors in training.
Kayla received her MA in Professional Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in addictions in 2020 from Lewis & Clark College and her BA in Psychology and Gender Studies in 2011 from Western Oregon University.
