What’s your favorite class? How has it expanded your knowledge?
My social justice class was undeniably my favorite academic experience, as it not only broadened my understanding of various societal issues but also equipped me with invaluable insights that I believe will significantly enhance my role as a school counselor. Through engaging discussions, thought-provoking readings, and interactive activities, I gained a deeper appreciation for the complexities of social justice and the importance of fostering inclusivity in educational settings.
What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?
I chose Lewis & Clark Graduate School for Education and Counseling for my master’s in education because of its commitment to progressive teaching methods and a holistic approach to education. The program’s emphasis on experiential learning and fostering a sense of community aligns with my educational philosophy. The school’s reputation for producing innovative educators and its beautiful Pacific Northwest campus were additional draws. How did your scholarship award influence your decision to attend Lewis & Clark?
Recognizing the importance of a quality education and the financial constraints many students face, the financial aid provided by the institution alleviated the burden of tuition costs. It not only made Lewis & Clark an accessible option for me but also demonstrated the institution’s commitment to supporting students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
What are your plans for after you graduate?
As I am now close to being done and graduated, I am pleased to say that I am now a school counselor at an elementary school. Being an elementary school counselor is incredibly fulfilling as it allows me to play a pivotal role in nurturing the emotional well-being of young minds. I find joy in creating a safe and supportive space where students can express themselves and navigate the complexities of growing up. It’s rewarding to contribute positively to these young individuals, fostering resilience, empathy, and a love for learning.
