Katie Dunn resides in the Pacific Northwest by way of the Midwest and Southeast. She graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School (2004) with a master of science in art therapy and an emphasis in medical art therapy. Her thesis work focused on integration and enrichment of graduate education with visual journaling. She is a board certified art therapist, a certified supervisor, and licensed certified art therapist. She has experience working with youth and adults in a variety of settings, however the vast majority of her career has been in a pediatric medical hospital as an art therapist and clinical program coordinator.
Her philosophy resides in the common ground between the human experience, art, and medicine. She believes that no matter the condition of the body or the brain, people have the capacity to engage in creative and constructive ways to significantly impact their quality of life and resilience. She has presented at various conferences and symposiums, as well as chaired and participated in several multidisciplinary committees to amplify the need for consideration of the whole person, social justice, and equity and inclusion in healthcare and beyond. Supporting student and young professional growth and development as an educator, site supervisor, and private practice supervisor is an ever growing passion.
Research Interest/Practice Specialty: art therapy with children and adolescents in a medical setting; complex grief and loss; developmental issues; visual-based learning; art therapy and neuropsychology; narrative therapy.
