Margaret is an artist and art therapist who graduated from Naropa University (2006) with a degree in transpersonal psychology/ counseling with an emphasis in art therapy and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon (2003). The primary emphasis of her work as an art therapist has been on working with adults who are experiencing grief and loss. Post graduate school she worked as a bereavement counselor and art therapist for a hospice, bringing the healing power of art to bereaved individuals. She has also worked extensively with elders who are dealing with dementia and memory loss. Currently she is working with adults who are faced with a cancer diagnosis and the many layers of loss that can be associated with such a time.
Margaret’s theoretical orientation is grounded in the knowing that art making as inherently therapeutic, and views her work as an art therapist through an existential/transpersonal lens. She is person centered, trauma informed and strengths based with an extensive background in mindfulness-based practices.
Research Interests/Practice Specialty: Margaret’s main areas of interest are art therapy with adults living with cancer and serious illness; end of life; grief and loss and existential/ developmental issues.
