Hate and Bias Response
Hate incidents harm both individuals and our communities. We can help support you and provide resources to aid you through the mental, emotional, relational, and community-related consequences of your experiences of hate or bias.
The Community Counseling Center (CCC), in partnership with the Graduate School’s Center for Community Engagement, has partnered with the City of Portland’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement and Portland United Against Hate. The L&C-CCC has become part of the PUAH coalition as a point of contact for individuals and families who have been targets of hate to receive support and advocacy.

Portland United Against Hate (PUAH) is a community-initiated partnership of organizations, agencies, neighborhood associations, and concerned communities to build a rapid response system that combines reporting and tracking of hateful acts and providing the support and protection the local communities need in this uncertain era.
Hate violence is any incident that harms or threatens harm based on a perceived identity.
If you have experienced

Speaking Out About Incidents of Hate
In addition to creating a network to support communities and individuals who are targets of hate or bias, PUAH has built a tool to report hateful acts. Underreporting of hate incidents can create the impression that it’s not a problem. The communities most likely to be targets of hate are also those least likely to report their experiences. PUAH’s tracking tool allows for an anonymous documentation of these experiences.
Reporting hate/bias incidents allows us as a community to:
- Raise awareness to general public about what going on with hate in Portland.
- Raise awareness among communities affected by hate to report and get support.
- Advocate for legislation around hate violence.
- Advocate for policies that dismantle racism and white supremacy the targets the roots of hate, gang prevention, mental health, policing alternatives.
- Advocate with systems and institutions that can use this policy to change their practices such as schools, mental health services, law enforcement.
- Advocate for additional policies or actions that indirectly affect hate actions in our communities.
